Army helicopter rescues 4 residents of Kozani Shelter (video)

by

The operation of the Civil Protection for the release from air of four residents who have been excluded for eight days in the village of Katafygi Velventou was successfully completed.

An Army Air Force helicopter arrived in the village, picked up two of the four trapped residents and transported them to Velvento. Then, according to the head of the Civil Protection of Kozani PE Prodromos Aslanidis, “he headed to a fuel refueling base and would return to pick up a man and a woman, who have remained in the village.”

The release operation was decided after an autopsy carried out by members of the Kozani Civil Protection Directorate, the mayor of Velvento Manolis Stergiou and the deputy governor of Kozani Katerina Dadamogia, in the area where the snow removal crews and the lumberjacks are trying to clear the road. They estimated that due to the dozens of trees that have fallen, it will take several days for the logging crews to cut them down and remove them so that the snowplows can then clear the road of snow and allow access to the village.

Taking into account all the above and the wave of bad weather that is coming in the coming days, it was decided to release the four residents from the air.

The request was forwarded to the General Secretariat of Civil Protection by the governor George Kasapidis and after the consent of the general secretary of Civil Protection Vassilios Papageorgiou, the order was given, an Army Air Force helicopter to undertake the release of the inhabitants.
