Imprisonment 10 months, with a 3-year suspension, imposed by the Second-Degree Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki against an OSE employee for injuring a 15-year-old boy who suffered an electric shock when he climbed onto the roof of an abandoned train car to take a photo.

He was found guilty of negligent bodily harm by omission. The incident happened in September 2017 at the railway station of Gephyra, outside Thessaloniki, and specifically in an unguarded parking lot of decommissioned train carriages.

According to the indictment, in the same area, in previous years, similar incidents had occurred, even fatal – with victims of people (homeless people, etc.).

The then Head of the Maintenance Department of the Thessaloniki Line sat on the bench of the court, who allegedly did not take care of the proper and sufficient marking of the area to warn the entrants of the impending dangers.

According to the case file, the 15-year-old was at the scene with his friend to take a picture. Once on the roof, a voltaic arc was created due to the close proximity of his head to live wires and an electrical charge flowed through his body, causing him to be electrocuted, knocked to the ground while electrocuted, and underwent surgery and other rehabilitative treatments.

In his plea, the accused, who has already retired, denied the charge, stressing that there was sufficient signage in the area. The court granted him a reduced term of conjugal life, while the sentence was reduced by two months compared to the first instance decision. For the same case they had also become defendants two executives of the OSE who were acquitted in the trial court.
