The simple analogy has led to a double election contest with huge costs at all levels, as the country has been in a protracted and essentially pointless campaign period since February.

In our country, we have a tradition of changing electoral systems according to the political wishes of the parties that have ruled from time to time. Who doesn’t remember his speeches Meniou Koutsoyorgawho was the mastermind of electoral laws, which led to crazy situations at the end of the 1980s, with the then opposition (Konstantinos Mitsotakis) gathering large percentages and not being able to govern.
The history of changes in electoral systems continued with few exceptions from the Post-colonial period to the present day, culminating in SYRIZA, when the simple proportional was voted. An electoral system that was tested in practice in the May 21 elections and proved to be not only a trap for the party that implemented it, but a sheer inconvenience for the citizens and a huge cost for the economy and the country.
The simple analogy, which was only simple in the end, led to a double election contest with the huge costs at all levels that such a development has, as the country has been in a prolonged and essentially pointless pre-election period since February.
The citizens were unimaginably tired of two consecutive electoral contests, at the moment when the ballot box of May 21 gave an overwhelming percentage to the first party, the New Democracywhich could easily have ruled since then, but by simple analogy such a thing was thwarted.
THE Alexis Tsipras, characterized the implementation of the simple proportional system as a strategic mistake after the overwhelming defeat suffered by his party in the May 21 elections, accepting that the specific electoral system was a big mistake. Mea culpa that is.
However, the admission of error, which certainly constitutes a political act of honesty, does not negate the serious consequences brought about by the application of simple proportionality, a system that for decades had been deified by the Left at a political level but also by many constitutionalists who have identified it with the most democratic.
But the time has come for the application of simple analogy and it became clear even to its initiators, that theoretical scientific approaches and political ideologies are one thing and political and social reality is quite another. So now, even at huge cost, the myth of simple analog has been debunked. That’s something. Why enough with the political myths…
