Vatopoulos to SKAI: It makes sense to have new restrictions on those who are not vaccinated over 60

by

The possibility of taking measures in our country that will further limit the mobility of citizens over 60 who refuse to be vaccinated against coronavirus was mentioned by microbiology professor Alkiviadis Vatopoulos speaking on SKAI TV and the show “Today”.

Asked if measures such as those implemented by Austria can be applied in Greece, where the vaccinated over 60 have access only to supermarkets and pharmacies, Mr. Vatopoulos described such restrictions as “reasonable”.

“It simply came to our notice then. They are weapons of public health “, he stated characteristically and added that first the persuasion must be exhausted and from there on we will go to such administrative measures.

Because we have over 100 dead

Regarding the number of deaths from coronavirus that exceeded 100 yesterday, Mr. Vatopoulos commented that it is already being investigated and there will be some explanation why in Greece there are more than most Western European countries.

He spoke of a multifaceted issue, which he said could be due to the burnout of hospital staff and the fact that many patients do not go to hospital on time because they are afraid.

“A useful message is when they get sick, let them seek medical help,” he said, urging patients to monitor their oxygen with an oximeter and seek medical help if they feel unwell, severely ill or have prolonged symptoms.

He explained, however, that the deaths reflect the infections of the previous 15 days when Delta was still in full swing, which all the data show that it causes a more serious illness.

Do I need a molecular test in 5 days to get out?

Regarding the general rule of 5 days of isolation, 5 days with a highly effective mask for asymptomatic patients, Mr. Vatopoulos explained that it balances with the need for society to function.

He described the molecular test (PCR) at 5 days as a “double-edged sword” because it “often confuses” while on the contrary an antigen test (rapid) helps better and shows whether or not we are contagious. In any case, he stressed that this directive does not apply to those who have symptoms, who must not leave their homes.

The Delta will logically disappear

Regarding the Delta mutation, the professor estimated that “it will logically disappear” since Omicron is more contagious. He warned that Omicron can also cause severe illness but to a lesser extent but it is certainly not a simple cold.

“Either Delta, or Micron or anything, when you have a coronavirus you have to be careful. “If it’s too late to seek medical help.”

Within a week the decisions for music, catering, schedule

Asked about the relaxation of the restrictions and the return of music to the restaurant, Mr. Vatopoulos stressed that it will be discussed and a decision will be made this week and called on everyone to be patient.

He did not take a stand for or against the relaxation of the measures, saying that this week’s data should be examined first.

Annual vaccination – “No” 4th dose for everyone in a few months

The professor stressed that a fourth dose of coronavirus vaccine will not be needed in the general population within a few months. He estimated that the vaccination will be annual, as for the flu.

Never say never lock you up

Regarding the possibility of lockdown, he commented “never say never”, adding, however, that he considers such a scenario “extremely unlikely”.

Summer and Easter in the village?

As the vaccinations and immunization of the population have progressed to a great extent, Mr. Vatopoulos expressed the hope that the citizens will be able to make “Easter in the village” and a normal summer.

“We can not be completely optimistic, just as we can not be completely sure what will happen,” he said.
