The land in Kalochori of the Municipality of Tempi, Larissa was divided into two and swallowed the road, fields and even trees.
A few kilometers outside the village, between cultivated areas, it has been open since last week, with the raid of “Diomidis”, a rift several meters deep which cut in half the rural road and even swallowed almond trees grown in an adjacent field.
As the president of the community, George Saitis, explains to ERT, the momentum of the water during the storm was such that it swept away everything in its path. In fact, as he tells us, he was very lucky as from the point where the rift opened, he had spent a little time earlier with his tractor.
However, the rift also served as a lifeline for the cultivated areas, as it provided a way out of the huge volumes of water that the torrent was lowering.
One week after the bad weather, the Municipality is in full swing in the area to repair the damage to infrastructure and road construction. At the same time, the need to proceed with the projects planned with the Region of Thessaly for the flood protection of the area is urgent.
