On the occasion of today (January 18), when the great composer Vassilis Tsitsanis was born and died, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, together with friends and musicians inspired by his work, paid tribute to the composer from Trikala.

The mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, after unveiling the plaque at the historic house of Tsitsanis, at 21 Pavlou Mela Street, made statements with obvious emotion, stating that “the municipality of Thessaloniki today pays the minimum price to a great Greek artist. Like today, Vassilis Tsitsanis was born in 1915 and died in 1984. At this point was his residence, a small room which he shared with another family. Here were heard for first notes from ‘Cloudy Sunday’ and some of the most characteristic Greek melodies were written “.

For his part, the author of the book Ouzeri Tsitsanis, who became widely known through his successful film performance, George Skabardonis, stated that “in Thessaloniki Vassilis Tsitsanis lived and created the most critical years, the period of occupation, in in the difficulties, the greatest masterpieces were written by the great composer. As he had stated in those years, he unfolded in this city his best music world “.

After the unveiling, the music band “Tsitsanis’s company” honoring the creator played two of his songs, deeply moving the passers-by and the gathered.
