Angela Zelia, the talented singer and actress of the old Greek cinema – almost permanent artistic “partner” of Nikos Xanthopoulos – passed away at the age of 88.

The news of her death was announced by the president of SEH, Spyros Bibilas in a related post.

“It is with great sadness that we learned a little while ago of the sudden departure from life of our dear friend and great iconic singer with the velvety voice of the 60s, 70s, 80s with numerous awards at domestic and international festivals, but also very dear due to her significant presence as an actress in the characteristic melo films of the 60’s, the one and only, Angela Zileia. Very kind lady who loved us younger ones like her own children. Have a nice trip, our sweet Angela”, said Spyros Bibilas.

The people’s girl

In the cinema, her first appearance was in 1959, in the film O thesauros tou makaritis and then she established herself in dramatic roles, mainly alongside Nikos Xanthopoulos.

Indicative of her repertoire are the titles of the films in which she starred, such as “I loved and hurt”, “The fate of an orphan”, “Why I was born poor” and “Humble and despised”

Angela Zileia excelled as a light song singer winning five awards at various festivals (Barcelona, ​​Sopot and Thessaloniki).

In Thessaloniki in 1964 he won the 1st prize with the song “Welcome love” and in 1968 the 2nd prize with the song “Hit my heart”.
