A double tragedy for two young people originally from Ireland, who arrived on the island of Ios to have a good time during their graduation and the excursion that the students of the school usually organize after the exams and the end of the school year.
A shocking story after two young children lost their lives, on the island of Ios, in a tragic way. In the end, the trip to Greece and Ios, for the group of 70 classmates who arrived from St Michael’s College, Dublin, turned out to be a thriller…
According to information from Cyclades24.gr, the Irish started on Saturday early in the afternoon to consume large amounts of alcohol and have fun with their company until the early hours of the morning. At one point young Max tried to return to his accommodation on foot, as many tourists are used to on the island since the distances are close.
However, his traces were lost, since when the friends returned to the room, they did not find their friend in the room. Immediately the police authorities of the island were mobilized and started looking for the young Irishman, whom they found dead at 11 am on Sunday on a cliff in the Germanoli area. The same information states that the young man, was in a state of intoxication, apparently lost consciousness, stumbled and found himself in the void … hitting his head.
His friends were shocked, unable to believe the evil that befell them after the graduation trip turned out to be a tragedy. This was not enough for them, some time later, another member of the group, another young man, Andrew, lost consciousness and passed away, with chronic heart problems, when he was informed of his friend’s death.
Both the island of Ios is shocked, as are the friends of the two children and their relatives in Ireland.
The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed the deaths of the two children. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance. As in all consular matters, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases,” the spokesperson told the Irish Independent.
This is the third case in the past seven days that has seen a young Irishman lose his life while on holiday in Greece. Rory from Cullohill in Co Laois died last Sunday in Zakynthos after his body was found in a swimming pool. Mr Deegan was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The school of the two young men also issued a statement.
In a statement the school said: “On a day of immense sadness for the school, we have learned of another devastating loss from the class of 2023, in the death of Max Wall. Max was a constant source of positivity, encouragement and fun to everyone around him.
Two Leaving Cert classmates have died while on holiday in Greece in a ‘devastating loss’ for their former school. In a day of immense sadness for the school, we have been informed of another devastating loss from the class of 2023, in the death of Max Wall. Max was a constant source of positivity, encouragement and fun to everyone around him. He was hugely popular with staff and students alike, and a fantastic supporter of our teams during our various cup campaigns (as well as a great brother to previous pupil, Charlie).
“Our thoughts are with Max’s family at this terrible time and with his friends who have experienced such a shocking loss in the last 24 hours. Shocking words for the second youngster as well: “Andrew was not only a popular classmate and friend, but a proud and dedicated member of our football team. He was kind to those around him, honest in all his endeavors and a great brother to Rory. Andrew will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.”
