The situation was saved by another believer who saw the smoke and hurried to put out the candles
An incredible incident happened in chapel in Larissa when a worshiper lit 58 candles and almost caused a fire.
As it became known from a priest, a lady went to the chapel to light a candle and pray. But the minutes passed and he wouldn’t come out of it, causing another believer who had been patiently waiting to start to worry. Finally, shortly after, the believer left the chapel, so that the man who was waiting outside could enter it.
To his great surprise, he found that the woman stayed inside the chapel for so long because she wanted to light not one, not two… but 58 candles that had literally filled the manualy! The flame emitted by all the candles together was such that the atmosphere in a rather small space had become suffocating. Fortunately though, the man started to fade away to avoid the worst!
“Mercy! Light a candle, enough for everyone! We will catch fire! Neither we, nor the commissioners can guard the church 24 hours a day” were the words of the priest to the faithful, who estimated that “if it wasn’t for this man to realize what happened in such a small space, we would have caught fire »!
