The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family has sent a letter to all municipalities in the country, in order to prevent the exposure of homeless people to danger
The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zaharakis, sent a document to all the municipalities of the country today, July 5, 2023, in order to prevent the exposure of homeless people to danger due to high temperatures.
Specifically, it was requested that the respective municipality designate the air-conditioned areas, which will be available for overnight stay and accessible at least during the hours from 10:00 am. until 8:00 p.m. during days with particularly high temperatures.
For the homeless who live outdoors and do not wish to use the above service, it is also recommended that they be informed about the heat protection instructions, as they are posted on the website of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection www.civilprotection.gr, as well as for the distribution of water bottles and basic necessities.
Also, the need for municipalities to cooperate with other services and Civil Society bodies was highlighted, especially in terms of the activation of volunteers, with the aim of creating a network to provide emergency intervention services to vulnerable groups.
