More than 25 involved with its 717 contract WORKED for signaling and remote control in the railway network, are called as suspects in a report by the Greek office of the European Public Prosecutor (EPPO), which a few days ago forwarded the case file to the Parliament, in order to decide whether to seek possible criminal responsibilities of the former Ministers of Transport Christos Spirtzis and Costas Ah. Karamanlis.

The non-political persons called to testify without trial by the prosecutors of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, according to information, are related both to the contract being investigated, and to its non-implementation for a number of years.

In this context, it seems that calls have been received by members of the managing authority of the Ministry of Transport, while the crime under investigation is fraud against the funds of the European Union, but also of the Greek State, as the project was financed jointly.

The contract in question came into the news after the tragic accident in Tempe, but the EPPO investigation had begun many months before the collision of the two trains that claimed 57 lives to check complaints about the management of Union funds.

The persons who are called at this stage as suspects, based on the law, can take cognizance of the elements of the voluminous case file that has been formed by the Greek office of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and, with their lawyers, draw up memoranda with their positions, which will be evaluated at the end of the procedure by the prosecution officers.
