The 45-year-old non-policeman from whose weapon the bullet that fatally wounded the 20-year-old Syrian marked, after an episodic pursuit yesterday, in the Athens-Thessaloniki E.O., is being brought before the Prosecutor and then the Investigator.

The driver, according to information, started from Athens with a stolen white farm car.

The stolen Nissan Navara was spotted at 11:40 in the morning by police officers of the Killeler Division moving at high speed.

Policemen in Volos signaled him to stop. The driver ignored police signals, sped off and a chase that lasted more than 50 minutes ensued.

The stolen car, after a “crazy” chase, ended up in the yard of a house in Moschohori, Larisa. The 20-year-old Syrian driver abandoned the vehicle and started running with the policemen chasing him, between plots of land.

“However, one of the police officers, under circumstances that are being investigated, used a weapon resulting in the person’s ribs being injured,” said ELAS press representative, Konstantina Diloglidou.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but despite resuscitation efforts, the person died.
