Recommendations to consumers for energy saving during peak hours in his period heatwave (from today until the beginning of next week) and shifting the consumption during the midday hours, when the production of energy from photovoltaics peaks, the Ministry of Environment and Energy directs.

Specifically, to assist the safety and adequacy of the country’s Electricity System, the following measures are recommended:

  • We operate the energy-consuming electrical appliances (washing machine, iron, oven, etc.) preferably in the afternoon hours (14:00 – 18:00), when there is an abundance of electricity and from the photovoltaics.
  • We adjust the temperature of the air conditioners to 26 degrees.
  • We close windows and balcony doors when the air conditioning is running to reduce losses.
  • We avoid, as far as possible, operating energy-consuming electrical appliances (washing machine, iron, oven, etc.) between 20:00 – 22:00. During this particular two-hour period, the System is tested, as the demand for electricity peaks and the production of the photovoltaics also disappears.
  • We avoid, as much as possible, operating the air conditioners between 20:00 and 22:00, since we have already lowered the temperature of our house and the temperature of the outside environment is starting to decrease.
  • We don’t forget lights on or devices in standby mode.

“The Ministry of Environment and Energy. the Waste, Energy and Water Regulatory Authority (RAAEF) and the competent Electricity Distribution System and Network Operators (ADMIE and DEDDIE respectively) are taking all the necessary measures to ensure the sufficiency of electricity in the Interconnected System and the Non-Interconnected Islands”, it is emphasized in the relevant announcement.

“In extreme conditions, however, consumer participation can play a catalytic role in reducing the strain on the System and ensuring its stability in extreme operating conditions. Active and aware energy consumers are also key participants in the “green” energy transition.”
