It gives the possibility of covering the rent to young people and families for a period of three years the Municipality of Athens following a program contract signed with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Organization of Welfare Benefits and Social Solidarity (OPEKA).

The program titled “Cover” managed by the Development and Tourism Promotion Company of the Municipality of Athens (EATA), concerns 257 residences and is addressed to in young people aged 25-39 yearswho are beneficiaries of the Minimum Guaranteed Income, live in the Municipality of Athens and do not own a first home.

“We are in consultation with all relevant agencies, we are creating partnerships and utilizing every available tool in order to effectively contribute to addressing the modern housing problem. Through the “Coverage” program, dozens of young men and women – with low incomes – are given the opportunity to acquire, for the next three years, free housing in Athens. The city needs young people and we support every effort that will give them the motivation to stay here”, said the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakoyannis, in a statement.

Those interested who meet the criteria are invited by the Municipality of Athens to submit their applications (also electronically) until Thursday, July 27.

In order to cover the housing needs of the beneficiaries, the program will make use of the private houses, which were allocated for housing applicants for international protection, in the framework of the “ESTIA II” and “ESTIA 2021” programs.

Priority is given to families with many or three children, to people with disabilities, to households in which there is an eviction order and to single-parent families.

The “Coverage” program is implemented within the framework of the Program Agreement signed between the Municipality of Athens, the Development and Tourism Promotion Company of the Municipality of Athens, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Organization of Welfare Benefits and Social Solidarity (OPEKA).
