The University of Crete is for another year among the 500 top Universities worldwide, according to the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

According to the rector’s authority, the results rank the University of Crete in first class among Greek Universities and occupies positions 401-500 internationally, despite the increased number of universities in the evaluation for the year 2023 (1,799 this year compared to 1,662 last year), together with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) and followed by remaining 14 Greek Universities.

THE The World University Rankingsnow in its 19th year, focuses on a select set of research-oriented universities rather than all of the world’s more than 20,000 higher education institutions.

Thirteen indicators are used to measure each university’s performance in teaching, research and outreach, knowledge transfer and international orientation.

For the impact and influence of research and with an index of the number of references, the University of Crete continues, as reported by the Rector’s Authority, to far surpass the general ranking and is in 279th place worldwide, while occupying the 388th place internationally for income from industry, an indicative indicator for know-how transfer.

“The important position of the University of Crete among the top 500 universities in the world is an important achievement for the university community and demonstrates the continuous efforts of academics, researchers and students of our university for improvement and development”, emphasizes the leadership of the University of Crete .
