The northeast winds have four fronts in a wooded, inaccessible area
The fire that broke out at noon is taking on dramatic proportions raging uncontrollably in Laconia. The northeast winds of intensity 4 Beaufort, which reach 6 to 7 Beaufort in the heart of the fire due to the microclimate that is created, has four fronts in a wooded, inaccessible area at a distance of 2 km from the settlement of Dafni, which, however, is not in danger at the moment.
The situation is constantly getting worse as flames erupt from everywhere on the four major fronts of the 5 km long fire in which six aerial vehicles will attempt until the last light of the day, while supporting strong ground forces and citizens with water tankers who are on the ground from the first moment and trying to create fire safety zones in order to protect the community of Dafni which is the first village of the Municipality of Evrotas.
The fire in the “Madritsa” area due to the strong north-easterly winds blowing in the area has grown in size. 10 vehicles, two infantry units, 6 aircraft and 1 helicopter operate on site. There is also mobilization by voluntary groups and local authorities.
Residents are organizing a line of defense with small water machines in the community of Dafni, while police, fire and municipal forces are already on site. The damage has been limited to a bushy and forested area, without any damage to any residence.
