The order to evacuate the village of Apollos was announced a while ago, following the order of the Fire Service, by the regional governor of South Aegean, Mr. Giorgos Chatzimarkos.

The decision was made for precautionary reasons as one of the fronts of the fire is close to the village.

“To declare three municipal units of Rhodes in a state of emergency”

At their urgent request, with no. 98473/759 to the general secretariat of Civil Protection, the regional governor of South Aegean, Giorgos Chatzimarkos and the mayor of Rhodes, Antonis Kambourakis, request that three municipal units of the municipality of Rhodes be declared in a state of emergency of civil protection, in order to deal with the extremely critical situation that has developed, due to the occurrence of strong fires since yesterday, which continue.

The request concerns the municipal units of Kameiros, Attavyros and Lindios of the municipality of Rhodes.

In the urgent request, it is pointed out that due to the occurrence of strong fires in areas of the municipality of Rhodes, which occurred on July 18, 2023 and are continuing, an extremely critical situation has been created, to deal with which requires special coordination and mobilization of potential and means in addition to what is available under normal conditions, and therefore, it is requested that the three municipal units be declared in a state of civil protection emergency.

It is noted that earlier this afternoon, at the Apollon fire station, the Emergency Civil Protection Coordinating Body (SOPP) of the Dodecanese regional unit was convened, under the chairmanship of the regional governor, Giorgos Chatzimarkos, with the participation of representatives of all the bodies that make up the SOPP, for the coordination and taking of measures to deal with and restore the consequences of the forest fire.
