The nightlife of São Paulo will be less hectic —Alberta#3, a nightclub that has one of the most famous underground tracks in the capital, has announced that it will close its activities after almost 12 years of operation.
For those who want to say goodbye, the bar will still have a survival in the coming days and will be open with DJ programming until February 5th.
Opened in 2010, the space says it has had the pandemic as its biggest villain in the last two years. “This period of uncertainty made us decide to close”, says local partner Noemi Rosa. “The rise of the pandemic earlier this year caused the movement to drop a lot.”
It is worth remembering that, in April 2021, the house even launched a crowdfunding campaign, with the goal of raising R$93,000 in 40 days and being able to keep its doors open. The value, however, was not reached. “We had a lot of help from friends and customers, but it wasn’t enough to keep us going.”
At the same time, the club had to adapt its structure to the bar format and started to serve drinks and snacks with tables distributed at the entrance and on the mezzanine, with a capacity limited to 40%. It was the rules of the state quarantine plan at that point for the space to work.
However, months later, Alberta had to close its doors again because of the tightening of measures to prevent the coronavirus – it was then that it started working only as delivery. At the time, Rosa stated that she could not leave her accounts in the dark with this service format.
In November of last year, with the restrictions more relaxed, the dancefloor was reopened and the bar returned to work as a club, with a full house and music. However, in January of this year, the high number of Covid-19 cases in the country caused the party schedule to be interrupted again.
Even with the expectation of a resumption of the cultural sector and with vaccination continuing on the rise in São Paulo, Rosa comments that, at the moment, there is no hope of a return. Even with the help of friends and clients, she says that there are no financial conditions to keep the doors open.
Alberta#3 became famous for its mix of environments in downtown São Paulo, with an entrance hall, sofas and chairs often used for flirting, a bar with a restaurant and, in the basement, a nightclub with different rhythms depending on the day.
The farewell schedule will have DJs known for having animated the dance floor in recent years. One of them is KLjay, a member of the rap group Racionais MCs, who on Thursdays led the Mutante party at the bar, with hip-hop and R&B.
Other DJs already confirmed to honor the last days of the house are Dina, known for the “Baile Indie” party, in addition to Fê Lemos, André Marcondes and Ivan Finotti —the latter two, from leaf. “We will call those who participated in the most important parties in the history of Alberta, it will be days only of thanks to the customers and everyone who supported us in this sad period”, says Rosa.
