Within a 24-hour period, two Greek smugglers were arrested in areas of the Rhodopes by police officers of the Rhodopes Police Department, in two different cases, who were promoting illegal immigrants into the country.

Specifically, in the first case, yesterday at noon on the Egnatia street of Komotini-Xanthi, police officers of the Iasmos Border Guard Department arrested a trafficker, because, with an IX truck, he illegally transported thirteen illegal immigrants into the country, who were found inside the vehicle’s cargo area.

It is noted that one of the above traffickers was found unconscious and was immediately taken to the Iasmos Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.

In addition, the vehicle was found to have fake number plates.

In the second case, today, in the early hours of the morning, on a provincial road in Rodopi, police officers of the Sapon Border Guard Department arrested the second smuggler, because he was transporting, by car, illegally into the hinterland four illegal irregulars.

According to the police, the driver-trafficker, before the upcoming police check, dropped the illegal immigrants from the vehicle, who were found hiding near the roadway.

The two vehicles, a pair of fake license plates, a sum of money and mobile phones were seized.

Those arrested will be taken to the Rodopi First Instance Prosecutor, while the preliminary investigation for the two cases is carried out by the Border Guard Departments of Iasmos and Sapon.
