The measures and initiatives that have been taken to support citizens and visitors to Rhodes are as follows:
– Within the next 24 hours, it is expected that the teams of engineers who will undertake the autopsies and experts in the fire-damaged buildings will go to the island, so that the damages can be assessed and the granting of compensation can be launched, based on the integrated framework established in the previous four years.
– Up to now, approximately 2,000 additional ranches have been received – in addition to those available from the first day in the accommodation areas – and 500 sleeping bags. They have been moved to the larger structures, which house guests who were forced to move from their accommodations, in order to further improve his living conditions.
– Today, another 1,200 ranches and 1,200 sleeping bags are expected to be delivered. It is recalled that stadiums, convention centers, hotel facilities and municipal structures allocated are regularly supplied with food and water and have air conditioning.
– The first reception and distribution of the ranches took place yesterday afternoon under the coordination of the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Triandopoulos and the Deputy Minister of Tourism Elena Rapti, who had earlier visited a series of accommodation facilities in order to make an assessment of the immediate needs.
– The second shipment was made by an Air Force C-130, the pickup was late at night and the distribution of the material was completed in the early hours of the morning
– Special care has been taken for the convenience of visitors who are at the airport of Rhodes. In addition to the activation of a special office where, thanks to the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassies, the departure of tourists who do not have travel documents is facilitated, a special area with a ranch has already been created where families with small children and the disabled are accommodated. A second similar space will be available within the next few hours. At the same time, free food and bottled water are available at the airport.
– Departure rates, which help to effectively manage the situation as the number of people needing temporary accommodation or movement is reduced, thanks to the addition of more flights by the major tour operators.
– From yesterday until 6:00 a.m. today, 1,489 people have departed with aircraft that came empty in order to pick up passengers, with destinations mainly in England, Germany and Italy.
– The situation at the airport has improved drastically, with several areas almost empty. According to estimates of senior officials of the airport, under these conditions the situation will be fully normalized by this afternoon.
