The picture is better in the fires burning in Dervenakia Achaia and Aegio
For one more night the residents of Rhodes, Corfu, Karystos, and Dervanaki of Achaia were faced with fiery fronts, as there were several flare-ups with ground firefighting forces and volunteers fighting non-stop to contain them.
In Rhodes during the night there was a battle with the fire in Gennadi and Vati, just as the situation was also difficult in Malona and Massari. Strong winds are blowing in the area, making the work of the ground forces particularly difficult, while creating new flare-ups.
Today is also expected to be a particularly difficult day for Rhodes, since according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, the island is in a state of alert 5.
With the first light of day, two aircraft and three helicopters started to drop water in Rhodes, but gradually during the day they are expected to increase.
The situation is also difficult in Evia, where the fire is raging near the settlements of Platanistos and Potami Evia. In fact, just before 2 am, a message was sent by 112 to those who were in Platanisto to evacuate to Karystos.
Two aircraft are supporting the ground forces operating in Karysto from the air, while others will be added as time passes.
The fire continues to burn in Corfu where, according to the fire department, there were flare-ups in the area of Palaia Perithia.
Strong ground forces and 4 aircraft and a helicopter are working to extinguish the fires, and they are expected to be reinforced with other aerial means.
There is a slight improvement in the picture of the fire in Dervenakia, Achaia, where several flare-ups occurred in the Vouraikos gorge during the night, which, despite the difficulties that exist due to the impassability of the area, were dealt with by the ground forces, who were on alert throughout the night. A helicopter is already operating from the air in Aigio and there is provision for more if the conditions require it.
