The farmer from Platanisto, according to his brother, had gone to the corral yesterday to save his animals
The situation is difficult in Euboea, where the fire is raging near the settlements of Platanistos and Potami Evia. The ground forces operating in Karysto are already supported by two aircraft from the air with the first light of day, while others will be added as time passes.
Fronts and gusts have been a nightmare since yesterday afternoon, as they “sprouted” from everywhere as the intensity of the winds remained particularly strong.
Platanistos and Livadi it was the two villages that the ground crews and volunteers, together with the OTA machines, had focused their attention to stop the flames, which were literally “licking” the houses.
In fact, the front towards Platanistos, which resulted from a resurgence, took on large dimensions, without the ground forces being able to contain it and headed towards the village of Platanistos and Palochori.
At 2:00 in the morning message from 112 informed the residents of Platanistos that they should leave their homes and head for Karystos. Until then, the authorities had partially evacuated the settlement, while afterwards all the residents would have to leave it. At the same time, the ground forces were trying to keep the flames in a ravine so that it would not pass towards Karysto.
It’s the third day which continues its destructive course, with the firefighters, the local government and volunteers fighting a real battle to contain the flames in the olive trees and ravines, while the fire in its course has burned several sheepfolds and agricultural facilities, as well as in several cases it has caused damage to houses located on the edges of the settlements.
Until today residents in seven villages have been asked to leave their homes and to move towards Karystos, as the flames threatened residential areas.
Aerial vehicles constantly over the area are trying to control a huge front that is more than 10 kilometers long and flare-ups are constantly being created due to the strong winds.
They have been moved to the area strong ground forces from all over central Greece and are constantly replenished, however, it is impossible for land vehicles to reach all areas, due to the relief of the terrain. According to the Fire Department, 93 firefighters with three groups of pedestrians and 32 vehicles are operating at the scene, while from the air there is assistance from helicopters and aircraft as well as earthmoving machines and water carriers of the Local Government.
End since yesterday eha thriller unfolds with a 41-year-old rancher who is ignored according to what his brother said. When the fire broke out the day before yesterday, he left to go to the corral to get his animals. Since then he has been missing and has not contacted anyone. Yesterday his brother went to the police station and reported him missing.
