Severe cold and frost in Northern Greece – Snow in Halkidiki – No electricity in Western Thessaloniki

Severe cold and strong frost compose the weather scene in northern Greece, where all involved services of the state mechanism have been put on alert to deal with problems that may arise from the passage of bad weather “Hope”, which affects the country.

Snowfalls occurred on the peninsulas of Sithonia and Kassandra, in Halkidiki, without mentioning any particular problems, while schools in these areas will remain closed today. Due to the low temperatures and the frost, the schools in the prefectures of Kilkis, Florina and Kastoria, in the municipalities of Eordea, Paionia and in the peripheral municipalities of Thessaloniki (Lagada and Volvi) will also remain closed.

Negative temperatures were recorded in the morning in all regions of Macedonia and Thrace, while in Western Macedonia conditions of total frost prevail.

With temperatures below zero dawned in Thessaloniki, where in the morning, in the city center, the temperature dropped to -2 degrees.

Power problems in the west

In the meantime, power supply problems have been observed for some time now in areas of western Thessaloniki, due to a fault in a transformer in the area. The damage mainly affects the areas of Polichni, Ilioupoli, Sykea, but also further north Pefka, while it does not seem to be associated with bad weather.
