To the head of the Staff of EL.AS. lieutenant general Eleftherios Garila was assigned the Sworn Administrative Examination for the responsibilities of the police services regarding the crossing of the whole of Greece by the Dinamo Zagreb hooligans who bloodied New Philadelphiabut also why they were not prevented from going to the AEK stadium, despite the fact that their intentions had been known for at least two days and their presence at the football match that was to take place today at the OPAP ARENA was prohibited.

According to the police, the Corps Headquarters based on information from the Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues, but also from the Croatian authorities, had issued an order which was sent to the entrances of the country and the services from Kakavia to Athens and also from Thessaloniki to Athens, according to which, if cars with Croatian fans were found, a check should be made and Athens should be constantly informed.

Particularly, the Sports Violence Sub-Directorate had sent three documents to Headquartersstarting from 6-8-2023, according to which there was information from the National Intelligence Office of Croatia that about 100 Dinamo Zagreb fans were going to travel to Greece, who would be hosted by fans of a Greek team, or stay in Airbnb homes, while there were also reports that AEK fans were informed of these arrivals and were organizing around the stadium in New Philadelphia.

Based on this information the order of the Headquarters was issued which was sent to Kakavia and Thessaloniki, but despite the information and the fact that there was information from Montenegro that they also passed through there, the hooligans managed to reach Athens and cause the most serious incidents in New Philadelphia.

It is also noted that some of the hooligans were spotted at the Elefsina toll road by the Security, while many stopped in Kiato, from where they moved in sections, either with their cars or with the Suburban, bound for Athens.

The largest part, with about 25 cars, ended up last night at ISAP’s Irini station, where together with Greek fans who were waiting for them, they took a train to Pefkakia and from there on foot to the stadium of Nea Philadelphia, where they attacked the fans AEK.

The second critical question is why were they not prevented from reaching New Philadelphia?

For those reasons, the Minister of Citizen Protection Yiannis Economou, as he stated, gave an order to the Leader of EL.AS. “for the swift conducting and concluding the internal investigation to fully verify the incidentsfrom the entry of the fans into Greece and afterwards, so that the due responsibilities can be identified and attributed, at every level and in any form”.
