Toll increase the highway concessionaires decided unilaterally, provoking a strong reaction from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which states that it will take all possible action to suspend the companies’ decision.

According to the ministry, the highway concessionaires requested, on July 3, 2023, in a letter to the General Directorate of Transport Infrastructure, with notification to the Office of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, the General Secretariat of Infrastructure and Directorate D17 of the Ministry, a working meeting with the General Manager with the aim of adjusting toll fees for the year 2023, based on the existing framework of concession contracts.

Due to the importance of the issue, the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and in particular, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, met, on July 18, 2023 and on July 24, 2023, with Messrs. Dimitrios Gatsoni, Managing Director of the Company “AEGEAN MOTORWAY S.A.”, Panagiotis Papanikolas, President and Managing Director of the Company “OLYMPIA ODOS S.A.”, Georgios Syrianos, Managing Director of the Company “MOREAS S.A.” and Rodiano Antonakopoulos, CEO of “NEA ODOS SA” / “ODOS KENTRIKIS ELLADAS S.A.”

“The will of the political leadership of the Ministry was to find a realistic solution, without the burden on the citizen for 2023″ emphasizes the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

In this direction, alternative scenarios were discussed.

“We were surprised to find that the concessionaires, in their letter dated July 28, 2023, again addressing the General Director of the General Directorate of Transport Infrastructure, citing the meetings that the General Director “granted” them, which however did not participate in them, and without any information of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, have decided, showing unreliability, to make a significant increase in tolls from next month. They proceeded, later, to publicize the relevant intention” it is noted.

“The State will exhaust every possibility it has to achieve the suspension of the unilateral actions of the Companies” characteristically states the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
