Answers for the absolute chaos brought by the snowstorm on Attiki Odos with thousands of people trapped on the highway, gave the traffic director of Attiki Odos Fani Papadimitriou, on SKAI TV and the show “Simera”.
According to Mr. Papadimitriou, about 200 to 300 people are still trapped while 1,000 cars have been left on the highway. Most were released last night and this morning in coordination with the army, fire brigade and traffic police, by bus and even by suburban wagons.
Asked why Attiki Odos continued to receive drivers on the highway for five whole hours, he replied “because the incidents were manageable in the beginning” and added that a road is not closed by a private company but needs to be consulted with the traffic police.
Regarding the claims against Attiki Odos, both by the state and by individual citizens, Mr. Papadimitriou replied “we are prepared for everything and obviously I am not wronging anyone”.
