The completion of the new road and rail transport infrastructure will strengthen Greece’s geopolitical position in SE Europe and the Balkans, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras in an interview with the newspaper “Nautemboriki”.

“We take advantage of the strategic importance of our country’s major ports on the world map, as well as the dynamics of major railway projects and invest in the development of the supply chain,” emphasizes Mr. Staikouras.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport points out the strong will to implement the necessary infrastructure, so that in four years the geopolitical and geoeconomic position of the country in the wider region will be strengthened.

Regarding the upgrading of the railway, he points out the increase in annual funding to the OSE from 45 million euros to 75 million, through the signing of the contractual agreement, which, at the same time, sets a framework for supervision and measurable results from the side of the organism.

It heralds that until the end of September, the last signaling section, from Oinoi to Tithorea, will be ready for trafficwhich completes the implementation of the relevant contract concerning the installation of signaling and remote control in the network.

Mr. Staikouras also emphasizes that hundreds of small and large projects are currently underway throughout the territory and a systematic effort is being made in order to maximize the produced result.

Finally, regarding the strengthening of the urban transport fleet, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport confirms that the supply of the first 250 new “green” buses is underway at the beginning of 2024, while in the following months the procedures for the second phase of the supply tender will begin an additional 650 buses with anti-pollution technology.
