Small crayfish and crabs are returning to the Pinios River. Herds are found in several places in Ampelona and Falani, which proves that the waters are clean and with enough oxygenthis is due to Gyrtoni Dam.

Crayfish are particularly sensitive to pollution and lack of oxygen in the water, which is why they had disappeared from the river since 1997 from the many factories that dumped the waste. Today most factories have closed and the signs of life in Pinios are visible.

According to the amateur fisherman Thanasis Katsanis, in the last five to seven years the crayfish increased in the river and the Dam (Roufraktis) located in the village of Gyrtoni helped in thisas there in summer the water rises to six meters and the flow of the river is regulated daily and not stagnant.

As you will see in the videos, the amateur fisherman from Ampelonas shows with the camera the crayfish that he catches daily in his nets and releases them back into the river.

It is worth adding that the natural fishermen, the migratory birds also start and return to the river such as pelicans, flamingos, mallards, herons, etc. which in flocks but also alone fall into the river to feed.
