The 48-year-old AEK fan and friend of Michalis describes to SKAI the shocking moments he experienced outside the New Philadelphia stadium
SKAI publishes the shocking testimony of one of the injured – victims of the Croatian hooligans. This is a friend of AEK, who even knew the 29-year-old Michalis personally. From the blows he received, his shoulder blade almost disintegrated and he needed 15 stitches.
The 48-year-old fan of AEK and friend of Michalis, who lost his life in the neo-Nazi attack, speaking to the camera of SKAI and Maria Douroudi, describes the shocking moments he lived outside the New Philadelphia stadium, as he escaped as he says by a miracle. Two of the Dinamo Zagreb fans attacked him with bats. They threw him to the ground and immediately four people started hitting him with sticks and kicks.
As the 48-year-old says, they were trying to take the AEK shirt he was wearing, and he was trying to save face with the shirt. After a week in hospital he recalls and describes everything he shockingly experienced that night outside the stadium:
“I personally went to get tickets with a friend and my son. By the time we got to Philadelphia, I got off with my son, for my friend to park. My son ran with the crowd because I didn’t understand what was going on…
So as soon as you got out of the car you saw people running?
48-year-old: Yes, I too eat wood and they try to steal my shirt.
Did it all happen so fast?
48 years old: very quickly. You cant understand. I thought it was ages but after watching the videos and everything that comes to my mind I can’t describe it to you. No war….that is the war, they came to kill us, they didn’t come to….both children and women who were on tables.
You open the car door and the next thing you remember what it is?
48-year-old: To see my son run.
And who were they? Did you understand?
48-year-old: No, I thought they were AEK players, that they were taking pictures, I didn’t understand at the time why they were running, what was going on.
And when you get out of the car, what is the first thing you do?
48-year-old: I see my son running, he is so terrified that he wants to stop playing football, not to go back on the field, and then I realized that they are chasing us.
Where were you hit, arms, legs, head?
48 year old: I have 15 stitches in my head, I have a broken back, my whole shoulder blade is broken, ribs, legs.
Were you able to figure out how many people are hitting on you?
48-year-old: Where should I understand at that time? No, I couldn’t understand anything.
Did you realize if there were organized AEK fans there?
48 year old: If there were organized fans there would this thing happen?
Were there police?
48-year-old: Not one.
Those who were beating you, did you hear any language, did you hear them speak?
48 year old: I didn’t hear anything. No, no, nothing, nothing.
They didn’t even tell you why they are hitting you?
48-year-old: No, as soon as I realized they were going to take my shirt off, I knew something bad was happening.
The same camera from the side of the field recorded the image of him receiving dozens of blows from the neo-Nazis and at the same time the incidents with the Molotov cocktails and flares in the grove where the 29-year-old Michalis was stabbed.
Michalis, the child who lost his life?
48 year old: I knew him personally, he was a very good boy, very Christian. What can I tell you, I have no words. I just want the culprits who took Michalis’ life to be found.
Did you go to the stadium together with Michalis?
48-year-old: We didn’t go to the stadium together, but we have also done day jobs together with Michalis, we have worked together, he has come to my house, he has sat, he has eaten with my children, with my family.
What do you think happened, what happened?
48-year-old: They came to kill us in an organized manner. Criminals from Croatia came to kill us. And I want from the Greek justice system, which I have complete trust in, that’s why I also have Mr. Theodoropoulos, as a lawyer, to find the culprits who killed Michalis and who went to take my own life as well, because I’m also miraculously alive.
When he thinks about that night…
48-year-old: I’m ashamed of being hit, so I’m ashamed that my son is still terrified and wants to never play football again. He doesn’t want to go back to the stadium to see his favorite team, he doesn’t want to play football again.
And after this adventure he sends his own message:
“Don’t stop young kids from loving football and sports. What they see is not sport. They came to kill us.”
The 48-year-old will take legal action against the government that allowed the Croatian convoy to reach New Philadelphia and neo-Nazis to attack unsuspecting fans…
