Extreme fire danger – State of Alert (risk category 5) and very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is also forecast for tomorrow, Tuesday 22 August 2023in many regions of the country.
According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), for tomorrow, Tuesday, August 22, 2023, it is predicted:
Extreme fire risk – State of Alert (risk category 5) for the following areas:
– Region of Attica
– Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia, PE Fthiotida)
– Peloponnese region (Argolida PE, Corinthia PE)
Very high fire risk (risk category 4) for the following areas:
– Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Evros PE including the island of Samothraki, Rodopi PE, Xanthi PE, Kavala PE, Thassos PE)
– Region of Central Macedonia (PE of Thessaloniki, PE of Halkidiki, Mount Athos)
– Northern Aegean Region (Lemnos PE, Lesvos PE)
– Region of Thessaly (Magnisia PE, Sporades PE)
– Region of Central Greece (Fokida Region, Fthiotida Region, Skyros Island)
– Region of Peloponnese
– Region of Attica (Kythira island)
– Region of Western Greece

– Region of Ionian Islands (PE of Kefalonia, PE of Zakynthos, PE of Lefkada)
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent government agencies involved, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above regions, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to face any fire incidents immediately.
Alongside, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be especially careful and avoid outdoor activities that can inadvertently cause a fire, such as burning dry grass and twigs or cleaning residues, using machinery that produces sparks such as circular saws, welding equipment, using outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lighted cigarettes , etc. Also, it is recalled that during the fire protection season burning of fields is prohibited.
If they detect a fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at the number 199.
