According to the mayor of Livadia, Yiannis Tagalega, “apart from the two settlements of Tarsos and Karyotis that sent messages from 112 for evacuation, it was deemed necessary that the settlements of Agios Athanasios and Panagia Kalamiotissa should also be evacuated
The fire in Viotia, started from the settlement of Lazareika behind the Aluminum of Greece factory in Aspra Spitia shortly before 7 yesterday afternoon and the strong winds very quickly led the fire to develop a huge front in all directions.
Despite the fact that the fire front was on slopes with very low vegetation, the winds in the area, blowing 8 and 9 Beaufort, drove the flames into residential areas.
According to the mayor of Livadia, Yiannis Tagalega, “besides the two settlements of Tarsos and Karyotis that were sent messages from 112 for evacuation, it was decided that two others should be evacuated. The settlement of Agios Athanasios and the larger settlement of Panagia Kalamiotissa. Thus, a total of 4 settlements have been evacuated, as the course of the fire was heading towards them.
According to Mr. Tagalega that “even now the intensity of the winds is particularly strong and does not allow substantial intervention by the ground forces”.
