The fire has so far burned several acres of forest as well as businesses in the Artakis – Vatonta area.
The fire brigade is on new alert as a while ago we had new flare-ups in the area of Vatona in Evia.
Ground and air forces are operating at the scene.
As the deputy governor of the regional unit of Evia, Giorgos Kelaiditis, told evima.gr: “We have flare-ups in the area of Vatonas. As I told you earlier today, the strong winds blowing here are worrying us. At the moment, three aerial means and strong ground forces are operating,” he added.
The fire has so far burned several acres of forest as well as businesses in the Artakis – Vatonta area.
Machines of the army, the district and the municipalities open fire zones to cut the fury of the fire.
Until now, the fire has burned a pine forest and has spread to olive groves, as well as poultry and piggery facilities, but no damage assessment has been done so far.
Many areas, which were surrounded by the fronts of the fire, were without electricity and water, as a large part of the PPC network has been damaged. In several cases, the damage was repaired by DEDDIE’s crews, while generators were also installed to meet the needs of the residents.
The strong winds that are still blowing did not allow substantial interventions by the firefighting forces on the ground to limit the fire that is burning the area, with the result that the entire mountain above Nea Artaki has been given over to flames.
The fire brigades, volunteers as well as the machines of the municipalities and the region, tried to regionally contain some fronts of fire, in order to protect residential areas.
Earlier, the evacuation of the industrial area in Nea Artaki was also ordered.
