Mazda with the i-Activ all-wheel-drive system wants to ensure ideal stability and calm while driving, while achieving economy similar to that of a vehicle with front-wheel drive.
Mazda’s advanced i-Activ AWD 4-wheel drive system has a load recognition function on all 4 wheels and works harmoniously with the GVC which adjusts and distributes the torque between the front and rear wheels. It also reduces the overall rate of mechanical losses and contributes to fuel economy.
Depending on how the system operates, at the beginning of the turn, the AWD system will maintain the existing forward-reverse torque distribution to give priority to the best turn response. In case of need the AWD system gradually increases the percentage of torque sent to the rear wheels to achieve neutral behavior and a more stable course of the car. During acceleration, more torque is distributed to the rear wheels as the vertical load increases. When decelerating, more torque is provided to the front wheels to maximize traction performance on all four wheels. This way the car responds perfectly to the driver’s commands.
The AWD system is available in the CX-5, CX-30 and Mazda 3 models.
