Faced with continuous flare-ups are the firefighters fighting the flames in Evros and Rodopi.
Specifically, in Evrosflare-ups are being experienced in the areas Lefkimmi, Leptokarya and Treis Vryses. Support is provided by forces from the European Civil Protection Mechanism, namely Cyprus with two aircraft, the Czech Republic with 16 firefighters and 3 vehicles, Slovakia with 39 firefighters and 8 vehicles, Serbia with 28 firefighters and, through an international agreement, Albania with 46 firefighters and 5 vehicles.
At Rhodopeflare-ups are being experienced in the areas Kassitera and Cirki. Support is provided by 36 firefighters with 5 vehicles from Bulgaria.
In Parnitha, are operating strong forces and are dealing with scattered active fires, mostly on its southwest side near the Clan Fort
At Boeotia flare-ups are faced in the mountainous massif of the Steiri and Kyriaki regions.
Also, assistance is provided by a large number of volunteer firefighters, forces provided by the General Staff of National Defense and the Hellenic Police, as well as water tankers and work machines from the regions.
Local investigative offices, as well as Divisions of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.
In total, the firefighting forces are faced with 74 fires throughout the territory, while in the last twenty-four hours there were 27 new forest fires, most of which, according to information from the Fire Department, were dealt with immediately, in their initial stage.
High fire danger on Tuesday
For tomorrow, Tuesday, the risk of fire remains high in many areas of the country. The territory’s Fire Service personnel remain on general alert in order to deal with the increased service demands that have arisen due to the large number of fires, while aerial surveillance patrols continue, as well as patrols by fire, police and military forces.
Finally, the Fire Brigade calls on all citizens to be particularly careful and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent Authorities.
