At the cabinet in September, there will be a discussion on recruitment planning for the next year in the public sector, while as the minister of the interior announced, “the lion’s share” will be in the health sector
In one month, the final plan for the 16,000 public sector recruitments will be readywhich will be done with the rule “one hiring for every one leaving”, according to the Minister of Labour N. Kerameos which, as he characteristically said, “we keep the body of the public sector tight, if you like, but at the same time we constantly introduce incentives to improve the performance, the productivity of the public sector. we want a government that will be more meritorious, more efficient, more functional”.
The minister speaking to ERT confirmed that at the September cabinet there will be a discussion on recruitment planning for the next year in the State, adding that “the lion’s share” will be in the Health sector.
“We are absolutely consistent in the priority we give to Health based on the needs of our country. We are a process that records the needs of agencies across the country, in all ministries, in all sectors. This will be the subject of discussion, research, study in order to present in about a month from today the final plan for the 16,000 recruitments”, he noted.
Regarding her evaluation and the productivity bonus he emphasized that “the evaluation system of civil servants is based on specific parameters that are now also linked to the productivity bonus, which is a very important parameter. The more efficient a civil servant is, the better he is paid.”
Then Niki Kerameos was mentioned in the assessment of public services by the citizens themselves: For example, I go to a KEP, I am served and then I am asked to reply by SMS if the service was effective, he said.
“The goal is always how to make the public sector better, how the public sector will become more functional, more efficient in serving the citizen.
This is the first year of the implementation of the law that directly links assessment with targeting. “We set targets specific to civil servants, evaluate them afterwards and link this to productivity bonuses as well.”
For teachers, reported that it started in January – after 42 years – their individual assessment by an education consultant, therefore external to the school, a consultant on pedagogic issues and a specialist consultant.
For the rest of the civil servants, there is a hierarchical evaluation from superiors, it is the first year of implementation and “we are already getting the first results, but obviously the water is entering the groove And I emphasize that here there is also the parameter of the connection with productivity. The more productive perhaps the more efficient you are, the better you get paid. So we are entering a new philosophy that requires the public to be better and we have put forward other important goals that are directly linked to a better public, such as faster hiring. But the important thing is that the citizen finds a doctor at the hospital, an employee at the KEP and so on. So the effort is for more targeted recruitments, for faster and more efficient procedures”, the minister underlined.
Asked specifically for doctorsMrs. Kerameos replied that there is already one salary increase, 10% and the Ministry of Health has established a package of incentives for health workers, for doctors who are called to serve in critical areas. “I remind you that after 14 years, the salaries of civil servants were increased in total with the second bill proposed by the new government in July, which passed us a month ago. And I would like to emphasize that in this increase there was a particular increase regarding those who hold a position of responsibility of approximately 30%. We consider that their role is catalytic in the orderly operation of the State, the Administration and for this reason we want to reward them better. Appraisal and productivity bonus are linked. Our goal is that those who will be called to serve in the State, really want to serve”, said Mrs. Kerameos.
The Minister of the Interior was mentioned indicatively in 400 fires that have erupted in the last six days. “We have already significantly increased recruitment in the Fire Department, from approximately 14,000 to over 16,000 and there are 46% more aerial vehicles and 96% more volunteers” said Niki Kerameos.
“This coordination effort now takes place at the level led by Civil Protection with all those who contribute, the Greek Police, the municipalities, the Armed Forces. All of them together our firefighters, volunteers, everyone, everyone works together. What seems obvious to you was not a few years ago. We have a way to go, obviously there is room for improvement. That’s why we will constantly try to. I would say to strengthen this cooperation and prevention and protection measures. We invest in prevention, through the creation of fireproof zones. Evros has been given more than 6 million euros for fire protection zones. 112 is a life-saving tool in prevention. We also invest in extinguishing measures with more firefighters and more aerial vehicles.
Recruitment in the Fire Service has already increased significantly from around 14,000 to over 16,000 and we will obviously strengthen further while we are already more than double the European average”.
