Kia has announced that it has secured two wins at the Red Dot Award and Brands & Communication Design 2023 for its design philosophy exhibitions and events and the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC).
Kia was recognized for the brand’s ongoing efforts to communicate its ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy through a series of creative exhibitions and events.
The company’s bold ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy was first unveiled in 2021, drawing inspiration from the contrasts found in nature and humanity. The philosophy goes beyond the design of Kia vehicles to declare the brand’s determination to advance two very vital fields that are at odds with each other – human well-being and environmental sustainability.
Equally ambitious and creative is the way Kia chooses to communicate its design philosophy through a series of groundbreaking exhibitions held at venues such as the Gwangju Design Biennale, the Busan International Motor Show and Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Korea, followed by Milan Design Week in Italy. High participation through Kia’s ever-evolving design philosophy exhibitions led to receiving the Red Dot Award – Brands & Communication Design 2023.
Kia will continue to host exhibitions to communicate its design philosophy and create authentic and inspiring experiences for its customers. At the end of the month, the company will participate in the “Seoul Light DDP 2023 Fall” event, which will be held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza with various artists.
The second award presented to Kia is in recognition of the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) technology that debuted in the EV9, the first three-row electric SUV. The innovative infotainment system offers game-changing new features such as quick control, integrated search and a new EV mode to take usability and driver convenience to another level.
The integrated infotainment system contains elegant graphics and vehicle user interfaces with an innovative design concept, completing a differentiated graphic design unique to Kia. This visual concept, ‘Ki’, is based on the ‘Bold for Nature’ pillar of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. “Ki” translates as “rise” and is represented by a diagonal line applied to entertainment elements, icons and fonts as basic graphics.
Optimized for driver safety and usability, Kia’s ccNC system also serves as an intuitive touchpoint through which customers can access the Kia Connect Store. This enables them to continuously update and upgrade digital features and services without having to take their vehicle to a dealership.
Kia’s latest double win at the Red Dot continues more than a decade of success for the brand. Recent recipients of the brand’s Red Dot Award include the Niro Plug-in Hybrid, which won in the ‘Product Design’ category in April, and the all-new EV6, which was rated ‘Best of the Best’ for its pioneering and innovative design of last year.
