“Approximately 600,000,000 pages of files need to be scanned and data entered into properties,” Konstantinos Kyranakis pointed out.
The process of digitizing the files is expected to start in September of the 390 mortgage registrars in Greece, which is expected to be completed in 2025, in a period of two years, in the context of the preparation of the National Land Registry.
This was announced today Thursday by the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos Kyranakis, during a discussion in the context of a summer school on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, hosted at Anatolia College (ACT – American College of Thessaloniki), in Thessaloniki. “Approximately 600,000,000 pages of files need to be scanned and data entered into properties, such as land, apartments and other properties. These records in previous decades were kept (i.e. as handwritten records in physical form) in libraries. The goal is to start their digitization next month, a process that is expected to take about two years,” Mr. Kyranakis pointed out.
He added that although Greece has made significant strides in the field of introducing new technologies, digitization and developing the innovation ecosystem, however technology is evolving at an exponential rate and the initiative needs to be accelerated. In this context, as he said, two groups of people need to be trained: the first is school children, for whom he pointed out the need to have an Artificial Intelligence (AI) course in both primary and secondary schools, and the second is the legislature , the parliament. As he said, in a few years there won’t be a single company in Europe or the worldwhich will not use AI, with the result that opportunities and challenges are coming to the fore, on which legislators will have to be educated to be able to understand them and propose the necessary regulations.
Mr. Kyranakis also referred to the need for further enrichment and utilization of the digital portal of the Greek state, “gov.gr”, so that citizens are better informed about the legislative work, their rights and responsibilities.
