582 firefighters with 129 vehicles and 16 pedestrian units, 6 aircraft and 2 helicopters are operating at the scene.
Between the regions Soufli, Kornofolia, Dadia, Kotronia, Sidiro and Giannouli Firefighters continue to work in the fire in Evros which has been raging for the 14th day. In total, they are dealing with 81 fires throughout the territory, while in the last twenty-four hours they occurred 44 new forest firesmost of which were treated immediately, at their initial stage.
As it became known from the fire brigade, in Evros strong fire brigades operate mainly between the areas of Soufli, Kornofolia, Dadia, Kotronia, Sidiro and Giannouli. 582 firefighters are working at the scene with 129 vehicles and 16 infantry divisions, 6 aircraft and 2 helicopters.
Assistance in dealing with fires is provided by European Civil Protection Mechanism with forces from France, Spain, Cyprus, Romania, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Slovakia, as well as through international agreements Albania and Serbia.

Also, assistance is provided by a large number of volunteer firefighters, forces that have been made available by the General Staff of National Defense and the Greek Police, as well as water tankers and machinery from the Regions.
The local investigative offices, as well as units of the Arson Crimes Directorate (D.A.E.E.), are investigating the causes of the fires.
“Currently the soufflé is not in danger from the fire” said the press representative of the Fire Brigade speaking to SKAI 100.3 John the Baker. The danger of the fire going to a residential area has been removed, the gentleman underlined Baker.
The Fire Service is on alert as for tomorrow, Saturday (2/9), according to the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, a very high risk of fire (category 4) is predicted in four regions:
• Region of Attica
• Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia including the island of Skyros)
• Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Evros Region)
• North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) has informed the competent state agencies involved in the official service, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to immediately deal with any fire incidents.
At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be especially careful and avoid actions in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding devices , the use of outdoor grills, the smoking of bees, the throwing of lit cigarettes, etc.
Also, it is reminded that during the fire protection season burning of fields is prohibited.
In the event of a fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at the number 199.
