Bad weather Daniel leaves immeasurable damages in its wake in immovable and movable properties, while the images of destruction in Magnesia, Thessaly and Evia are reminiscent of apocalypse scenes.
Roads literally cut in half, cars buried in muddy water, damaged buildings and generally lost citizens’ property are the open wounds of the next day that will have to be managed and compensated by both the state apparatus and the insurance companies.
The total “account” is expected. after the recording of the damages, which will begin immediately according to the government representative Pavlos Marinakis, however, citizens are anxious and are already calling their insurance companies to find out what they are entitled to.
“In most cases of natural phenomena, especially for residences or businesses, when there is a provision – in the insurance policy for natural disasters – such as what is happening now, it is included in the coverage and compensation is given,” explains insurance broker Filis Nikolaos, who has extensive experience in such contracts.
“However, if there is no provision in the insurance policy to cover natural phenomena, it is not covered by the insurance” he underlines.
However, as he explains, the state compensation is not involved with the insurance company’s compensation, so citizens affected by the bad weather should read their policies carefully as the state may cover peripheral pieces that were damaged such as the retaining wall or the fence and his insurance policy to cover the damage to the property.
