The personnel and means of the Armed Forces are strengthenedin accordance with the needs and instructions of the Civil Protection, in the wider area of ​​Thessaly to deal with the effects of bad weather, following the orders and guidance of the GEETHA.
Specifically, in its wider area Volos, Karditsa, Trikala and Larissa they operate four earth loaders – trenchers, eight earth loaders, two earth movers, seven barges, utility vehicles as well as one bus.

One is available for assistance Emergency Company with 71 people of the “Xenokratis” project.

Also, a Bailey bridge has been approved and will be installed in Kala Nera Volos, while recognition has been made for the installation of Bailey bridges in Stournareika, Trikala, and Mouzaki, Karditsa.

In addition, by order of the head of the GEETHA general Konstantinos Floros all the departments of the “Xenokratis” project maintain a 2-hour readiness, i.e. all the available machines are kept loaded on tank carriers, with their drivers and operators located in camps for immediate mission execution, if required, while all the means – machines of the Armed Forces, is still ready for disposal, following instructions from Civil Protection.

Hospitality of victims in camps

At the facilities of the 32nd Marine Brigade in Volos, at the Georgoula camp in Nea Ionia, accommodation facilities have been opened for those affected by the natural disaster and who lost their homes. Already, more than 60 people are accommodated in the camp facilities and there is a possibility to accommodate more than 150 people.

Traffic ban in Skiathos

In Skiathos, by decision of the General Regional Police Directorate of Thessaly, the movement and traffic of vehicles is prohibited throughout the road network of Skiathos which has been affected by the natural disaster and a large part of the road network of the island has been destroyed.

With ferries from Volos, reinforcements with machines are already being sent to the island to deal with the situation, while thousands of tourists remain stranded and cannot leave, since – due to the problems – dozens of flights to and from the airport of Skiathos “Alexandros Papadiamantis” have been canceled and travelers are waiting either in hotels or in airport lounges, where many of them – more than 500 – spent the night there.
