Zak Costopoulos: The trial continues with the testimony of witnesses

The witnesses will try to highlight the critical moments that led to the death of Zak Costopoulos with their testimonies today before the Mixed Jury Court, in its second session on the case that shocked the society three years ago.

With requests from bodies and others, including ESIEA, to the administration of the Court of First Instance and to the Ministry of Justice to provide a larger room for the trial, the process that began on October 20 continues today in the same room.

Charged with the death of the 33-year-old are two citizens, the jeweler, inside the store of which the victim and a broker entered, and the four police officers who had rushed to the spot. They are all charged with fatal bodily harm.

Following the testimony of the parents and brother of the 33-year-old activist who opened the hearing, the trial is expected to continue today with the testimony of witnesses, from the list of 41 that were pronounced at the beginning of the trial.

The people who were found on Gladstonos Street at the critical moment, at noon on September 21, 2018, when the 33-year-old activist was inside the shop of one of the six accused, are expected to climb the witness stand, “for an unknown reason”, according to the referral parliament, “chased” according to his relatives.

The medical examiners, whose scientific point of view is important, will also testify about exactly how the tragic result occurred and the effect that the successive blows that he received before Zak Costopoulos, who was covered in blood, died.

The court will try to retrieve every detail, every observation and every fact that will be given by the eyewitnesses of the shocking death of the 33-year-old, in order to revive what happened from the moment Costopoulos was on the controversial sidewalk until his dramatic fall.

At the disposal of the actors of the trial is the video material that was recorded from Gladstonos Street and from what happened when Zak Costopoulos was trapped inside the jewelry store. The material in question from the beginning, during the first meeting, was agreed with the Civil Action and the Defense that it will be used so that the judges and the actors have a full understanding of what happened on Gladstonos Street and the position of the accused and the victim in the area. but also so that eyewitnesses can be examined.

Dozens of friends and members of organizations claiming “justice for ZackieOh” will be outside the courtroom today.
