As the waters recede from Storm Daniel, the picture faced by people in the affected areas is heartbreaking as the damage to infrastructure, livestock, crops and household appliances is incalculable. Entire villages are mired in mud, animals are dead in the livestock farms and residents with their heads down are in despair for the next day. In this biblical disaster, the assistance of volunteers is important in the Reception Centers for those who have been released that operate in the P.E. Trikala and Karditsa.

The Trikala Municipality turned the gymnasium of the 5th High School of Trikala into a Reception Center for those released. The area that hosts school activities and nursery team trainings, is now a place of first, short-term shelter and protection after the big shock for those who were forced to leave their homes.

Now, mattresses with bedding have been placed, food, clothes, shoes have been transported (many left with very few personal belongings). The Municipality of Trikkaia with the chief deputy mayors, the co-competent services of the Municipality of Trikkaia, many volunteers from Trikala from the first moment created a safety net for those in need. In the area, those released can stay and receive care, until the Municipality of Trikkaia allocates them beds in hotels. Which lasts very few hours. Already, around 400 people are staying, both in hotels provided by the Municipality of Trikkaia, as well as in structures of the Community Center of the Municipality. Also, the Rector’s Authorities of the University of Thessaly took initiatives to support students in the cities affected by the extreme weather events by providing meals and water. The Rector’s Authorities assure students and their parents that they are on constant alert to deal with any problem that may arise, while soon measures will be announced for the University facilities that were affected by the bad weather. The Chamber of Trikala has published instructions for professionals and businesses that have suffered damage from the floods. From tomorrow, an information and support office for affected professionals will operate daily at the offices of the Trikala Chamber.
