Minimal to zero cases in the three years 2020-2023, period of implementation of the strategic mosquito management program, from the Region of Attica, it is stated in an announcement of the Region, noting that the event “certifies for another year the effectiveness of the actions implemented in the context of the integrated management program that has been implemented for the last three years, following a relevant initiative of the Regional Governor G. Patoulis”.

It is noted that as part of the actions provided for in the program, which is prepared in collaboration with the Benakeo Phytopathological Institute and the EODY, “65 traps have been placed in the basin and on the islands of Attica for the capture and identification of thriving adult mosquitoes, while spraying and nymphicides, with the use of modern means (helicopters, drones) they are carried out in time, at the points where danger is detected.

The regional governor G. Patoulis in his statements about the positive results of the program points out, among other things: “For us, the protection of public health is the highest priority. Especially in the present very difficult situation, when all of our thoughts are on Thessaly and the consequences of natural disasters and public health”. He emphasizes that the Region is on the side of the citizens being tested and that a group of health supervisors went to the affected areas to assist the respective Health Directorates of the Region of Thessaly, in health checks of water, food and prevention in matters such as mosquitoes,

It is noted that the program has emerged as a Good Practice among the countries of Europe and that according to EODY the West Nile Virus is now endemic in Greece, therefore the first goal of the services of the Attica Region is the increasingly timely information and action to avoid the existence of human cases.

Finally, the program includes the Operation of the “Observatory” as an early warning system for the immediate intervention of the PA services, for cases where it is judged that there are elements of danger in combination with the relevant information of the Municipalities about their own actions where these are feasible.
