Illegal ancient objects of particularly high value were located in N. Rodopis. Specifically, in the context of the utilization of information, police officers of the cultural heritage and antiquities department of the Thessaloniki security department identified and arrested a 72-year-old citizen, against whom a case was filed for violation of the legislation regarding the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage in general.
In particular, after an investigation in the presence of a representative of the Judicial Authority, in a house owned by the arrested person, in an area of ​​the Prefecture of Rodopi, a metal detector and 79 ancient objects that fall under the protective provisions of the relevant legislation were found and confiscated.
These are: (15) fluted columns of the Late Roman – Early Christian period, (3rd -4th century AD), a fragment of a worked marble object, nine stone projectiles (probably a catapult), a stone column base, two parts of fossilized trunks, one well mouth, two stone basins, two clay flywheels, two fragments of Neolithic stone tools – trivers (6,500 BC-3,000 BC), one lead anchor with lashing hole, five fragments of prehistoric stone tools 4 chisels and 1 Neolithic chisel (6,5000 BC-3,000 BC), a pitho stopper, a ceramic prehistoric unidentified, with hanging holes and incised decoration, a lead sling projectile, 25 Neolithic stone tools 6,500 BC-3,000 e.g. [3 φολίδες και 22 λεπίδες], an undiagnosed stone ax, two metal balls (cannonballs), a classical bronze arrowhead 480 BC-323 BC, a fragment of a classical bronze buckle 480 BC-323 BC, a bronze coin perhaps Roman 27 BC-476 AD, a Byzantine bronze coin 330 AD-1453 AD. (follis), a bronze awl of the Byzantine period 330 AD-1453 AD, a stone tool of the Neolithic period 6500 BC-3000 BC, a part of a vase with handles, two coins of the Ottoman period (1453 AD .AD-1922 AD), an Ottoman-era (1299 AD-1922 AD) decorated fibula fragment, a decorated metal ring and a newer item – a metal belt fragment.
The arrested person will be taken to the District Attorney of Rodopi.
