The medical examiner testified that the fatal outcome for the 9-year-old girl was scheduled, as his health was burdened
“Ketamine is not related to Georgina’s death. There are no findings compatible with poisoning” said at the trial of Roula Pispirigou the Medical Examiner Christos Kravvaritis who was called to the MOD proposed as a witness of expert knowledge on the part of the accused.
The medical examiner testified to the MOD that the fatal outcome for the 9-year-old girl was set in stone, as “The child was so burdened, paralyzed, with a gastrostomy, with so many other issues that had led to multiple organ failure.”
As Mr. Kravvaritis said, Georgina’s death should have been attributed to the forensic report of his colleague Mr. Sotiris Bouzianis as “acute pulmonary edema as a consequence of lung disease and the taking of suppressive drugs”.
In his testimony, the witness disputed Mr. Bouziani’s report even characterizing as “unusual” the way in which the forensic investigation into Georgina’s death was conducted. As Mr. Kravvaritis characteristically said: “I would never say poisoning as the cause. The phrase fatal poisoning does not correspond to the forensic report. There are no findings compatible with poisoning. It does not fully correspond to the forensic status. For me, it would be more reasonable to reads “acute pulmonary edema secondary to pulmonary disease and taking depressant drugs”, would be a complete full forensic report”.
According to the witness, Georgina’s life expectancy “was in fact very limited. It was only a matter of time before it happened even if all the other parameters were not there: A brain completely damaged, with gliosis, that is, with scarring, marked brain degeneration. The heart with problems, almost 41 grams. And the liver with problems. The organism is insufficient in many of its functions. The final background of the incident was respiratory arrest. In a lung that is suffering, we administer substances that in daily practice we call “narcotics”. The child was taking substances that made breathing difficult. For me it is the most important element” he testified.
As the witness said regarding ketamine “As it was administered, it was a substance administered side by side unrelated to the effect. It should not be considered as a serious background to the effect. The patient had respiratory distress and multiple organ failure. . . We do not find it ketamine easily. I have never found her. Her involvement in this case should not be taken into account..”
Chairman: You say he had difficulty breathing? But there is no such finding recorded for 1/29/2022
Witness: In the morning. I think it was at noon.
President: What emerges is that at 2:20 p.m. there is a message from the accused to her husband that does not mention breathing difficulties. Would not her synod, in this case the accused, have mentioned it if she had difficulty?
Witness: He did not die of lung disease. From lung disease with the assistance of heavy narcotic drugsif one of them was missing he might be alive.
In his own testimony earlier, pathologist Andreas Karameris, who has also been proposed by the defense as an expert witness, referred to the findings of the histological assessment he made of Georgina’s death.
The witness particularly emphasized the issue of the heaviness of Georgina’s heart: “The child’s heart was 47 grams! I have never seen such a light heart. It should be 110-115 grams at this age. It made a very big impression on me.. The small weight of the heart also shows a deviation to perform its functional work. The ejection fraction (insufficiency) is also smaller. Normal heart tissue has been replaced by fat in areas.”
Regarding the findings from the child’s brain and cerebellum, Mr. Karameris said that “a mild cerebral edema was also detected. We found a change in the tissue of the organ, that is, it was destroyed and replaced by glia. This means a continuous injury”.
Regarding the child’s lungs, the witness testified that “There was an image of severe pulmonary edema. They gave me a document on 1/29/2022 (the day of death) with twenty thousand white cells. This means an infection. We are talking about a lung disease, an inflammation in the lung.. The source of infection is the lung. I see a disturbance of the physiology of the heart. He had fat in the heart and this causes disorders. But, no one can say that this degeneration can lead to death.”
