Greece was named the top island destination for 2023 at the award ceremony of the most popular Chinese travel magazine Travel and Leisure, held yesterday, Thursday, in Beijing, as announced.

According to the judges, the choice of Greece was made based on data from China’s tourism industry and the opinion of the magazine’s readers.

Travel and Leisure is the most recognizable tourism media in China with an audience of over one million readers on social mediawhile collaborating with the largest Chinese television networks for the production of shows, documentaries, etc.

At the ceremony, which was the first since the pandemic and the lifting of China’s travel restrictions, the award was received, on behalf of the Embassy of Greece in China, by the Office of Public Diplomacy. “It is with great pleasure that we notice that our Chinese friends, after the resumption of trips abroad, reward Greece as a top travel destination. We will continue through our actions to present our tourist product to the Chinese public, with the aim of increasing the quality tourist flow to our country. Already, this June, our Embassy, ​​in collaboration with a well-known jewelry house in China, contributed to the organization of a special fam trip in Greece for the acquaintance of selected Chinese clients with the tourist beauties of our homeland. As the Greek Ambassador explained, a seven-minute long video with the particularly flattering title ‘A visit to Greece: Top Choice for a Beach Vacation’, which shows the Chinese audience examples of the application of the concept of sustainability in tourism, is also very successful on the Internet. in everyday life. The video, in its first week online alone, was watched by more than 1.2 million viewers, while more than two million read related posts on Chinese social media.

Filming for its production took place in Greece in mid-July, following the initiative of the Greek Embassy, ​​and with the cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union in China. The presenter, a well-known Chinese vlogger, presents in a way accessible to the young audience, Greek beaches that are distinguished through the institution of the “Blue Flag” while glorifying, among other things, the inventive traditional construction in the Cyclades that ensures the homes protection from high temperatures, but also the utilization of solar energy in the hinterland and the islands for the supply of hot water.
