This morning the mayor of Volos, Achilleas Beos, filed a lawsuit against all those responsible for the environmental pollution that Pagasitikos receives through the open floodgate of Lake Karlas, through which the waters of the lake and Pinios are channeled into the sea bay.

Mr. Beos informed about the situation that prevails in Volos after the disaster and the huge damages suffered by the capital and the wider area of Magnesia and noted, among other things, about the problem of the city’s water supply: “The water in Alykes is not drinking. These are the responsible words of a mayor. The order is to take samples every three days and do checks. The only truth is ours and the relevant ministry’s. We protect the world and tell the truth, not that some people want to take advantage of the crisis. Nine doctors and a fortune teller got together and lied to the world about the water. It’s a shame that some people are happy with the city’s misery.”

Also, the mayor of Volos, referring to what is happening with Lake Karla, emphasized: “The lands of Magnesia cannot accept a drop of water and woe betide you if it rains again. I went to Karla and there a lake has been created outside of Karla with twice the volume of water and according to the scientists it can take three years to drain the water and the water has dead animals, animal feces and it has the sewage of the Larissa biological . There is an environmental crime here. This morning, and while I had gone to the Prosecutor’s Office at the beginning of the week, today I filed a complaint against everyone responsible. I demand that this crime be stopped. Sewage, about 700,000 cubic meters per day, this sewage flows to the Pagasitikos. The samples taken from the port, Anavros and Alykes showed that their indicators are very high in coliform bacteria and enterococci. High microbial load. Since last week, I have sent extrajudicial letters and letters to the relevant ministries, district, health department, if they do not take immediate measures then they are guilty. Now the sluice gate to Lake Karla must be closed to stop the contamination of Pagasitikos. I will ask the citizens, I will cover the costs and I am looking for a law office to appeal to the European justice system and ask for compensation of millions of euros for those whose interests have been affected. In the next 10 days the issue will be promoted and it will be a mass lawsuit. My choice to take the hose and wash the streets and send a message to unsuspecting citizens, who cares if they move their cars to have the streets washed? There is no way that Volos will not shine at Christmas.”

Finally, Mr. Beoss set a tone of optimism for the city’s rebuilding, noting: “We’re getting ready to have the most spectacular Christmas the city has ever seen. Let the tourists return to the city. You will get the world’s answer on October 8.”
