The recent and sudden decision of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum to urgently evacuate the Koutsocheros refugee camp was aimed at hosting homeless flood victims.

According to information from “Freedom“, by decision of the Ministry of the Interior, which the General Secretariat of Civil Protection is required to implement, at the latest from tomorrow, Monday, dozens of flood victims will be transferred to the (former) refugee camp in order to immediately address the housing problems.

According to the same sources, dozens of Thessalonians who were effectively left homeless after the devastating onset of the “Daniel” bad weather demand that the problem of the roof be dealt with immediately.

Among them, a mother of two minor children from Keramidi Trikala, families from flooded villages and towns, such as Farkadona and Marathea, have already signed up to a “list” in order to possibly be transferred to the camp today, by tomorrow at the latest.

After the evacuation of the refugees, the first huts (containers) have already been maintained and repaired to house the first residents of neighboring areas that the climate crisis, combined with the lack of long-term planning at the government level, turned them into “refugees” in their own right the place.

As is known, the settlement of Koutsocheros was hastily evacuated with the approximately 900 refugees being transferred to other structures in Southern Greece (Ritsona, Thermopylae etc.), given that in the first days of the bad weather there was no road connection between Larissa and Northern Greece.

It is recalled that the order of the Ministry of Immigration became known last Monday, September 11, and in less than two 24 hours the refugees were hurriedly transferred to other Structures, without then explaining the reason for the evacuation. A rationale that was confirmed in the last few hours with the decision of the Ministry of the Interior, in the first phase, to prepare at least 100 huts for the immediate accommodation of families of flood victims.
