The meeting at the Department of Civil Protection has ended – the state apparatus is on increased alert – Kikilias is going to Larissa
The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias is going to Larissa today, in view of the worsening weather conditions in the wider area of Thessaly, which is already burdened by the catastrophic storm Daniel.
In Larissa, a warning message 112 was sent a while ago for dangerous weather phenomena in the area from early Monday morning.
Today at noon, a new broad meeting was held in Civil Protection on the preparatory actions being implemented to deal with the bad weather, which will start tomorrow Monday and will affect almost the entire country, including the areas affected by “Daniel” .
During the meeting, the decision was made on Monday-Tuesday and Wednesday that public services and schools remain closed in the Region of Thessaly.
In view of the impending rainfall in the already burdened areas, the state apparatus has been put on heightened alert, while at the same time crews from the Regional and Local Government are cleaning (rivers, streams, wells) and working to restore the dikes.
More specifically:
From the Fire Department, 650 firefighters and 140 vehicles are already in the area and operating. In addition, the Fire Brigade has reinforced its forces in Thessaly with personnel, vehicles, boats and EMAK forces from Central and Western Macedonia, Epirus and Central Greece, and has created 3 Base Stations:
1. Base Station VI.PE Larisa (Lake Karla)
2. Delta Junction Base Station (nodal point on the road network for Trikala, Karditsa and Sofades)
3. Suburban Junction Base Station.
ELAS is on standby in the wider area of Thessaly with 1639 police officers and 766 vehicles.
The Armed Forces are also on standby.
Already operating and ready are 70 people of the 7th MAK with 10 boats and the required equipment, 2 Companies (120 people) with 24 boats, 108 media operators, 19 civil engineers, and 1 sanitary-veterinary officer. On land, there are 3 armored vehicles, 11 general purpose vehicles, 3 thrusters, 3 loaders and 1 grader, 3 special vehicles with decontamination equipment, 3 trenchers, 7 dump trucks, 7 tugs, 12 additional boats, 2 buses and 1 water treatment machine, while the forces will be further strengthened with 14 loaders and 14 tippers, as well as 4 lighting pylons with double crews, in order to be able to work at night as well.
6 aerial vehicles and 3 ships from the Navy are on standby. Finally, all the staff of the “Xenokratis” Project are on alert.
• The works for the restoration of embankments in the Farsalitis River and in areas of Palamas, as well as the cleaning of transported materials in the Kalentzis River of Karditsa and in the “Thousand Trees” area, are being continued by machines of the Region of Thessaly.
Furthermore, interventions on the Yiannouli bridge and the Enipeas river are being completed, with an emphasis on the embankments, work continues on the mountain network of Pelion, as well as in the prefectures of Trikala and Karditsa, and interventions are carried out on the mountain and plain road network.
At the same time, a series of cleaning and restoration projects in the affected areas are continuing and being completed by Regional Unit and Municipalities – and with the assistance of construction machinery from contractors – such as:
– Restoration of embankments
– Cleaning of streams
– River cleanings
– Ditch cleaning
– Rehabilitation of pumping stations
– Well cleanings
