Endangered and endemic species of the Greek flora and fauna will “meet” in the next period of time Metro passengers in Athensin videos that will be shown on the docks, as part of the cooperation between the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization (OFYPECA) and STASY.

As early as mid-September, passengers are informed on the subway screens about the Nisyros Bellflower, Pefkotsopanakos and Black Stork, species that are included as protected in the Red List of Threatened Species of Plants, Animals and Fungi of Greece, while in the following period the material will dynamically renewed with new items.

This is an initiative of OFYPEKA in the context of a project it is implementing and which concerns the updating and compilation of the Red Lists of threatened species of Plants, Animals and Fungi of Greece, in accordance with the criteria and specifications of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) . The project includes the evaluation of more than 10,000 species and their classification into risk categories, the creation of a national database and website with information on the taxonomy and distribution of species of flora, fauna and fungi in Greece, as well as promotion and information actions. It is part of the operational program Transport Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development (YMEPERAA) of the programming period 2014 – 2020 and is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund.

What is OFYPEKA?
